The Joseph M. Katz Graduate School of Business has embraced a strategic vision that steps beyond the traditional business education model to emphasize experience-based learning, globalism, entrepreneurship, value chain and supply chain management, and interdisciplinary collaboration across its programs. Opportunities for graduate specialization in business administration at the Katz School exist in the areas of finance, accounting, information systems, marketing, operations, organizational behavior and human resources management, and strategy environment, and organizations. The full-time MBA program is offered in a one-year and two-year format. In 1963, Katz was the first in the world to offer a one-year MBA program. Today the one-year MBA program is nationally ranked and is consistently recognized as one of the top returns on investment in the country. The part-time MBA program is also nationally ranked. The majority of part-time students, almost all of whom are employed full time, complete their studies in slightly more than three years. The same world-class faculty who teach in the full-time program also teach in the part-time program. The Katz School also offers a number of dual-degree programs, including MBA/MS-MIS (Master of Science in Management of Information Systems—earn both degrees in 20 months); MBA/JD (Juris Doctorate; offered jointly with the University of Pittsburgh School of Law—earn both degrees in three years); MBA/MSE (Master of Science in Engineering; offered jointly with Pitt’s Swanson School of Engineering—earn both degrees in 20 months); MBA/MIB (Master of International Business—earn both degrees in 20 months); MBA/MPIA (Master of Public and International Affairs; offered jointly with the University’s Graduate School of Public and International Affairs (GSPIA)—earn both degrees in 20 months); and MBA/MID (Master of International Development; also offered in partnership with GSPIA—earn both degrees in 20 months). Katz also offers certificates in conjunction with the MBA in areas such as Global Supply Chain Management; Technology, Innovation, and Entrepreneurship; Six Sigma/Green Belt; and Organizational Leadership. The Executive MBA (EMBA) Worldwide program, the second oldest executive education program in the world, is specially designed for executives with upwards of 10 years of work experience and allows them to maintain their regular full-time positions while pursuing a course of study with a global orientation. In 15 to 18 months, executives graduate with a first-class MBA as well as a network of local and international contacts that serve them for the rest of their careers. EMBA Worldwide has sites in São Paulo, Brazil; Prague, Czech Republic; and Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. EMBA students take most of their courses at one site but participate in classes at each of the other EMBA sites as well. A doctorate in business administration is available to those interested in research and university teaching. Full-time students typically complete this program in approximately four years.
